Broughton’s own Jake ‘Jumbo’ Andrews defeated Seamus Devlin via unanimous decision at Oldham Leisure Centre.
Taking his professional record to 2-0, Jumbo managed to pick apart his opponent showcasing his exceptional boxing talent.
Sporting a pink and pride outfit in support of Manchester Pride and the LGBTQ+ community, Jumbo walked in to Salford classic ‘Dirty Old Town’ by The Pogues creating an electric atmosphere inside the centre.
Reflecting on the victory, he said: “I was more relaxed this time than my debut, I had a lot of stress in my first fight as my son had just been born.
“I put a lot of pressure on myself because I had waited so long for it, I was fulfilling my dad’s dream and I wanted to do everything right.
“I’m just glad I put on the beautiful performance that I did, it proved everything I worked hard for was worth it and I think I shocked a lot of people.”
Through Jake’s experiences, he has continued to use his boxing platform to raise mental health awareness and tackle other social issues.
He added: “I’m not just in the sport for money.
“I’m in this sport for my legacy and to make an impact by raising awareness for different issues using the platform that I have.”
Jumbo’s next contest will be on the undercard of a world title fight at the University of Bolton Stadium on November 26.
The fight will mark Jake’s third and final fight of the year.
“The main focus for me is to get that world title, it’s just a matter of time.
“You have to believe in the process, believe in the universe and stay focused.”
Jumbo and his team are hoping to reach 10-0 and then go for a title shot.
