Salford’s Islington Mill is to host their first live event in over a year due to Covid-19, with Partisan x Fat Out Weekender.
The Grade II listed building is set to host the collaborative event between Mill-residents Partisan Collective – a volunteer-run space for independent, community-led projects, and Fat Out – an independent show production team, passionate about championing the local underground music scene.
Speaking to Fat Out’s Emma Thompson on the timing of the event, she said: “Partisan had just moved into the Mill building – they run events that I was a big fan of, and it just made sense to extend it and open it up and work together.
“It’s been really nice building relationships and Partisan was very much looking forward about the future of the Mill spaces, so we teamed up for four shows over the bank holiday weekend ”
Partisans Venue and Events Co-ordinator Sophie Hayter shared this excitement:
“The way that things have worked with Partisan moving into the mill when it did and us being able to team up on these events is definitely taking a lot of pressure off us doing it more individually, and instead sharing resources and knowledge and supporting each other. I would have found it really stressful to just do this alone.”
After being in the pipeline for over six months, the event aims to bring some ‘much needed noise back to Salford’ and includes two rescheduled shows originally planned for ‘Fat Out Fest 2020’, which was cancelled due to a change in restrictions.
Emma noted, “We’re obviously so excited about it, but there’s a certain level of ‘Oh God, I can’t remember how to run events!’, so definitely an anxiousness going into it, but we can’t wait to have humans in a room and to have live music again.”
Fat Out Festival aims to be rescheduled for Halloween 2021, when restrictions ease further.
“I actually decided that even when the road map was announced that going full steam ahead with a 500-capacity festival across 5 venues in Salford with like 12 curatorial partners just seemed really daunting and I just couldn’t take working towards something that was potentially going to be cancelled again”
Running across May bank holiday from 27th-30th may, the event will be seated in tables of 2 to 6 people with prices ranging from £6 to £10 per ticket.
