Residents in Broughton House Veterans Care Home Village celebrated the 76th anniversary of VE Day in style, as well as celebrating the residents’ full vaccinations against COVID-19.
Residents of the Salford home donned their glad-rags as they enjoyed an afternoon of food and war-time songs in bunting
adorned Veterans Care Home.
Alongside this they were treated to a visit from members of the Members of the reservist 236 (Manchester) Squadron, part of the 156 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps.
The day was also cause for celebration as all residents of the Salford care home have received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccination, showing the homes triumph in the war against COVID-19.
As with last years celebrations, the home was treated to a selection of war-time songs by Sarah Dennis, also called the Veterans Sweetheart. Unlike last years show which was shown over Facebook Live, Sarah was allowed to sing in person behind a COVID-safe glass pod.
Speaking of the event, the Salford care home manager Alison Wiseman said: ““It was a great pleasure to have Sarah singing in person this year and to welcome members of the 236 (Manchester) Squadron.
“Our special visitors and our brilliant staff team helped to make VE Day extra-special for our residents.
“It wasn’t just an occasion to mark the end of World War Two in Europe. It also gave our veterans the chance to celebrate their individual triumph over Covid.”
