Salford local elections.

Polling is under way today with voters choosing the Salford City Mayor, the Greater Manchester Mayor and local council representatives.

Sixty councillor seats are up for grabs representing areas like education, housing and social care.

Who can I vote for in the mayoral election?

You will have two votes, and a choice of six mayoral candidates in the Salford City Council election.

  • Paul Dennett – Labour Party
  • Wendy Olsen – Green Party
  • Stephen Stuart Ord – Independent 
  • Jake Overend – Liberal Democrats
  • Arnold Saunders – Conservative and Unionist party

Where is my polling station?

Your polling card should tell you which polling station to vote at. If you can’t find your polling card click here to find your nearest polling station. 

If you need help travelling to your local polling station, contact Salford electoral services. 

How long do I have to vote?

Polling stations opened at 7am and voters have until 10pm to cast their vote.

If you are isolating due to Covid-19 you have until 5pm to get an emergency proxy vote.

Is it too late to post my vote?

No, postal votes can be handed in to your local polling station by 10pm.

 

Step-by-step guide on how to vote:

Step 1:  Go to your local polling station. This should be written on your polling card. To find your local polling station look on the Salford City Council website

Step 2: Read your ballot paper. It should give instructions on how to vote. If you are visually impaired you can ask for a voting device that lets you vote privately. Alternatively, ballot papers are available in a larger font which can be provided by polling station staff. Watch this video by Salford City Council for more information on what’s on the ballot.

Step 3: Cast your vote. Mark your choice in a private booth using the pencil provided. If you make a mistake you can ask for a new ballot paper. 

Step 4: Submit your paper.

Is it safe to vote at a polling station?

Yes, measures have been put in place to ensure public safety, including a one-way system and hand sanitiser stations. Voters should wear a face covering unless exempt and maintain social distancing. For more safety advice visit the Government website

What do I need to take?

Voters should bring their polling card which proves they are registered to vote in that area. For coronavirus measures you are advised to bring your own pen/ pencil, but disposable pencils will be available. You must wear a facemask at all times while in the polling station.

What if I’ve lost my polling card?

Don’t panic, just give your name and address at the polling station and you will be able to vote

Do I need a Covid test before voting?

No, polling stations will be following social distanced guidelines, however if you do show symptoms or are isolating then make sure you follow government guidelines. 

Is help still provided at the polling station?

You can ask to bring someone with you to help you vote and if you make a mistake you can ask for a new ballot paper.
