A community favourite, Sykes Fish and Chips, has placed in the Fry Magazine top 50 UK fish and chip takeaways for 2021.
It comes after a rough year, having to close its dine-in area for many months due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
But this hasn’t stopped the Pendlebury eatery from providing its popular meals to Salfordians as it has for the past 35 years.
In a social media post, the restaurant on Bolton Road said: “With thousands of entries Sykes is proud to be named one of the UK’s top 50 fish and chip takeaways. This is a prestigious award and the competition was high.
“We would like to thank all our loyal and supportive customers and those who have queued on our busy teas as well as the wonderful team we have working with us.”
Sykes was assessed by multiple mystery shoppers over a few months, and evaluated on a variety of aspects of the business; from social media presence to how Covid safe the business is, but the main focus was on the food quality at Salford’s favourite chippy.
After being dubbed ‘Salford’s Best Chippy’ by the people of Salford in 2020, the chippy is a community staple, and received a 98 per cent score from Fry Magazine. The pass rate benchmark for the prestigious award this year was the highest ever, at 97 per cent. The stakes were incredibly high but this proved no challenge for the restaurant.

It is the first time a chippy in the region has made the list, with four of this year’s restaurants based in Greater Manchester.
