Comedian Jason Manford will perform a play at The Lowry using a script he’s never previously seen.
The 39-year-old will be performing White Rabbit Red Rabbit, one of the most widely seen plays in the world.
Manford will be handed the script live on stage and will immediately begin to perform the text to the audience watching on Zoom.
Jason said: “I’m proud to be following in the footsteps of some truly great actors in performing White Rabbit Red Rabbit.
“I hope this event raises lots of much-needed funds to support The Lowry through this difficult time.”
The show, created by Aurora Nova and Nassim Soleimanpour, was conceived in 2011 and requires no set, rehearsal or direction.
Julia Fawcett OBE, chief executive of The Lowry, said: “Jason is no stranger to The Lowry and we couldn’t think of a better Salford voice to take on the task of performing White Rabbit Red Rabbit.”
The shows take place at 8pm in every time zone worldwide creating a series of theatre performances by the daring actors brave enough to take on the role.
Manford, a graduate of the University of Salford, performed in The Masked Singer as Hedgehog and hosted the Royal Variety Performance in 2020 as he now looks to get his 2021 underway.
Though known for his comedy, Manford has a background in singing too. In 2011 he competed in the TV competition Born To Shine, where he was taught daily to sing in an operatic style.
He also played Caractacus Potts in the UK tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from February to April 2016. Manford also returned to the role in October 2016 and continued through February 2017.
Tickets are £10 per household and can be bought from www.thelowry.com with proceeds being donated to The Lowry’s ‘Emergency Appeal’, a charity set up for support throughout the pandemic.
