Salford City look for first away win in five games against promising Crawley Town

Salford City look to step up their promotion hopes against 12th placed Crawley Town. This season in League 2 has been a whirlwind, and less than 10 points separate the top nine.

Salford City have slipped down to ninth after three draws in five games.

Promotion is not out of reach for the Ammies, with manager Richie Wellens believing they can turn their unfortunate run of form into winning.

Speaking to Salford’s official channels, Wellens said: “I want to win, I don’t want to draw.”

After a disappointing performance against Port Vale, where Salford only managed a draw, Wellens spoke about his thoughts on the draw: “The only way now that this is a good point is if we go away from home and win at Crawley, that means in the last four games we would have picked up eight points which is a decent return that keeps our run going.”

Wellens hopes for the first win on the road for Salford City in five attempts.

However, Crawley Town will not be easy opponents. They have won three of their last five games and sit at 12th in the table. They have won back-to-back home games after going five without a win.

Manager John Yems has credited Salford for their quality: “It’s going to be a hard, hard game, I know it will be tough.”

Last time out against Crawley, former Manchester United striker James Wilson scored a wonder goal for the Ammies.

There is plenty of promise for Salford this season, with promotion hopes and the final of the Papa John’s Pizza Trophy against League 1 Portsmouth, which has yet be given a date. Hopefully, Richie Wellens’ side can create a winning streak that will lead them to the heights of League 1.
