A woman living in Salford has been baking treats so that she can fundraise for Derian House Children’s Hospice.

Sophie Houghton, 25, is originally from Chorley, Lancashire. However, she currently lives in Salford for work as she is training to be an auditor.

She has always had an eye for baking, and has turned it into a hobby over the years.

“I baked a little bit when I was at school, college and university, but to be honest it’s just for friends and family usually when I’ve a bit of free time,” she explained.

“They’ve all said that they’re really good and the reviews have been good, or maybe they’re just being nice to me!

“I thought it might be worthwhile if I could potentially sell them and make some money for charity.”

Sophie has a selection of delicious items on offer, including: Brownies, Muffins, Banana Bread, Flapjacks, Mince Pies, Millionaires Biscoff and Gingerbread Men.

She is selling these in boxes of four at a price of £7 with all proceeds going to her chosen charity.

The charity that Sophie has decided to raise money for is Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley, who provide end-of-life care for over 400 children and young people across the North West.

Whilst Sophie does not have a personal affiliation to the hospice, she would like to see the donations go to a cause locally to her and her family, given the current climate:

“I’m from Chorley originally but I work in Manchester, and that’s why I moved to Salford,” she said.

“Derian House is the local children’s hospice to me back home, and I just thought it would be great to donate to this local cause.

“Obviously there’s loads of nationwide charities, and I feel like sometimes the local ones can be overlooked, so I thought it would be nice to give something back closer to home.”

In addition to baking the goods, she has also been delivering the goods personally, busy with orders in various places across the North West:

“I’m in a social bubble with my parents, so I’m going back and forth with deliveries back home, and then of course delivering locally here to Salford and Manchester areas.”

Sophie’s generosity does not seem to stop there either, as she plans to bake more goodies and sweet treats this weekend, and like with any homemade goods, Sophie has her own personal favourites:

“It’s a toss-up between the Millionaires Biscoff and the Brownies for me!” She said.

If you are interested in purchasing any of Sophie’s homemade treats you can get in touch with her via her twitter @sophiehoughton before this weekend to place an order.
