Police in Salford have closed an investigation into a doorstep shooting in Lower Broughton after the victim did not want to help detectives.
The attempted assassination, which happened two years ago in Benedict Close, remains unsolved with Greater Manchester Police now confirming they are no longer seeking information.
The victim, who remains anonymous, was shot by a masked gunman on his doorstep at around 9pm on 4 December, 2018.
A statement from GMP said the investigation was closed due to the victim not wishing to support the investigation.
A spokesperson from GMP said: “Following an investigation by detectives with a number of lines of enquiry followed up, the decisions was made that no further action would be taken as the victim didn’t wish to support the investigation.
“Evidence given did not meet the threshold for further action. As a result, the investigation was closed.”
The police were alerted by Hope Hospital at the time after the victim had arrived with gunshot injuries.
The injured man required surgery to his chest, knee, and wrist following the shooting.
The gunman is described as having a large build, dressed in black with a balaclava covering his face.
A man who was arrested at the time was released under investigation and later released with no further action taken.
The assassination attempt followed the murder of Salford ‘Mr Big’ Paul Massey, a notorious crime boss who was killed by ‘The Iceman’ Mark Fellows outside his home in July 2015.
Figures for Salford show 469 instances of violent crime were reported in December 2018.
