A Cadishead Rhinos youth player and his dad have been collecting toiletries and snacks for Salford Royal Hospital, with the help of his birthday money.
Bailey Dullaghan, eight, and his dad Mike, 47, alongside their rugby team, gave roughly 70 toiletries and 10 boxes of chocolate for the staff in the Critical Care Unit after an appeal for donations.
Bailey said: “Because of what’s going on in the world I just wanted to help.
“My dad, I think he posted a message, we saw it on Facebook [Salford Royal’s donation appeal]. So, I got £30 out of my birthday money and then my entire rugby team and my friend Fletcher, they all helped me donate.”
Salford Royal’s Critical Care Unit staff were having to shower every few hours due to the increase in Covid patients in the Intensive Care Unit. They said there were running out of toiletries as a result.

“It just makes me feel happy,” he said.
Bailey and Mike received a letter addressed to them and their team from the Critical Care Secretary at Salford Royal, thanking them for their donation and the gesture – much to Bailey’s pleasure too.

“I got excited. I thought I was going to go on the radio!”
Mike said: “Totally proud of them all – our Bailey, his age group in the rugby lads, plus there was other age groups involved from Cadishead Rhinos.
“We’d gone to post on other pages and there was other kids all involved. It wasn’t just the under-eights, it was throughout. Everyone’s done brilliantly.”
Club secretary Paul Elliot added: “We are all very proud of Bailey and his teammates’ efforts and think it was a great way to show their appreciation of the hard work and dedication of our NHS workers.”
The hospital was so overwhelmed with donations that any additional contributions will go to other wards and patients.
