Salford City forward Luke Armstrong has joined National League outfit Hartlepool United on a season-long loan.
Armstrong began his career at Middlesborough, before switching to Birmingham City. He then spent six months at Cowdenbeath in Scotland, before signing for National League North side Blyth Spartans in January 2016.
The forward made an immediate impact at Blyth, playing a pivotal role in their promotion from the Northern Premier League by scoring 23 goals during the 2016/17 season, earning himself a move back to ‘Boro.
The 24-year-old then enjoyed a loan spell at Gateshead during the 2018/19 season, before he was loaned out to Accrington Stanley. After two seasons in the books at ‘Boro, Armstrong signed for Salford in 2019.
Picking up only 4 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions in a Salford shirt, Armstrong will be hoping he can find better form in his new number 29 Hartlepool jersey.
Speaking on his squad’s latest addition, Hartlepool manager Dave Challinor said: “Luke is a goal scorer and is someone I’ve known about and liked for a long time. I thought the possibility of getting him had probably passed with the success he’s had and dropping back down to national league level wouldn’t be an option.
“He’s desperate to get back playing and scoring goals and he’s a local lad so ticks every box for us. I hope we can reignite his career and get him back enjoying his football and doing what he does best, putting the ball in the net. If that happens the move becomes a win for every party.”

Chairman Raj Singh said: “We are really pleased to get in the last week Joe Bunney and Luke Armstrong. Joe has been brought in to give us cover over the busy period of Christmas and New Year.
“It has been obvious that we need goals and Dave has been looking for a while to bring someone in and we have really pushed the boat out to get Luke in.
“We wanted to further demonstrate to the fans, the season ticket holders who were parted with their hard-earned cash and to all who have contributed to the budget booster that we are financially backing the manager and his team to get us much higher up the table where we all feel we should be.”
Following FA approval, Armstrong is now available for tonight’s game against King’s Lynn Town.
