A Salford-based charity, St Ann’s Hospice, are hosting the Light up a Life Appeal online to help Salfordians remember lost loved ones.
Over the last 25 years, thousands of people have taken part in the Light up a Life appeal for St Ann’s Hospice to make a very special Christmas dedication.
Light up a Life gives you the opportunity to celebrate the life of a loved, whether they have been a patient at St Ann’s Hospice or not.
This year, the charity is inviting people to reflect on this chaotic year and light a light for the other losses they have felt this year, such as time lost with family and friends due to staying indoors, or those occasions that couldn’t be celebrated due to being in lockdown.
David Waterman, Medical Director at St Ann’s, explained: “As this year comes to a close, it’s important for us to take a moment to reflect and remember all the things that are close to our hearts from this year.”
Our Medical Director, Dr Dave Waterman is supporting our Light Up A Life Appeal saying it is a time for us to join together, remember loved ones, and honour some of the many missed memories we’ve had this year due to the pandemic. Read more here: 👉 https://t.co/FYrAXJVLre

The organisers are expecting hundreds more to join the appeal by creating an online dedication in the charity’s Winter Forest. These dedications can include a photo and a message to a loved one, or with a special tree light.
Waterman added: “We’re enormously grateful to everyone who makes a dedication, whatever the reason, as every light and donation helps us to continue to provide care for the patients and families who need us now.”
All the dedications that are received before the 27th November will also be recorded in the charity’s 2020 book of honour. The book will be displayed in the Little Hulton hospice, here in Salford, as well as the Heald Green hospice.
As well as dedicating a light, supporters are also invited to join the hospice’s special Light up a Life Appeal online. It’s the first year the service will be shared virtually, for everyone to join in and light up a light wherever they are.
Celebrate the life of a loved one this year in our annual Light Up A Life appeal. This year we’ve got a selection of candles and commemorative items on sale to mark the celebration of a loved one too.
