A Salford nursing home for veterans has launched a November fundraising moustache growing challenge.
Broughton House on Park Lane is encouraging Salfordians to grow the best facial hair they can this month to raise money in support of their Veteran residents.
D-Day veteran and former Royal Marine Commando, 96-year-old George Simms, who is a resident at the home, will judge the best moustache.
Laura Carr, who works at Broughton House, said: “George thinks it’s fantastic. We all know he has the best moustache but he’s delighted that so many of his family are especially taking part.
“He cannot wait to pick the winner and see all the entries.”
George is known for having a pretty impressive moustache himself.
Broughton House is encouraging those taking part to tag them in their progress photos on social media.
Laura added: “The November Moustache Challenge is simply that, grow the biggest and best moustaches and proudly show them off on November 30th whilst raising money to support our Veteran residents.
“Our residents are always so pleased to hear of challenges and events that supporters have taken part in to raise money to support them and their home.”

Fundraisers like these are vital for the Veterans who stay at Broughton house.
Laura explained: “Challenges and fundraisers like this one are extremely positive for all concerned at Broughton House.
“It’s a great way to engage the local community, raise much-needed funds and bring a little fun, especially during these times.
“Without our supporters, Broughton House simply wouldn’t exist.”
It is more important than ever for local communities to support fundraisers like these.
She added: “The support of the local community through donations to challenges like this one help keep Broughton House alive.
“As times are especially hard at the moment, their support and kindness mean so much to all concerned here.”
Laura also talked a bit about what the residents get up to at Broughton House.
She said: “We moved into our new building at the start of September.
“We are so lucky to have two wonderful health and wellbeing co-ordinators, Sue and Emma, who plan activities with our residents throughout the week to keep them motivated, stimulated and bring joy.
“Residents have made bird feeders and had pampered sessions amongst a whole host of other exciting events.”

The Movember challenge coincides with the first Remembrance Sunday ceremony held in the new building. Due to Covid-19 guidelines, they held a smaller in house service for staff and residents.
