Twitter pays tributes to former Great British Bake Off finalist and Salford City Council worker who has died

Former Great British Bake off finalist and Communications Manager at Salford City Council, Luis Troyano, has died aged 48 from oesophageal cancer.

The baker made the finals of the much loved TV competition back in 2014 and after the show Troyano said Bake Off had “totally changed my life”. He went onto release a book called ‘Bake it Great’ in 2015.

The news of his death was shared on Twitter by his agent Anna Kibel.

Many other former Bake Off contestants have paid tribute to Luis Troyano including Martha Collison who he competed and worked alongside.

And former winner Candice Brown tweeted: “The bake off family will miss you Luis. A real gent and a pleasure to know. Sending so much love and strength to your friends and family.”

Troyano’s local football team Manchester City also tweeted their support for his family.

A JustGiving page has been set up to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of Luis Troyano.

On the page are Troyano’s own thoughts on the charity and others who had supported him.

“A special thankyou to Macmillan Cancer Support, East Cheshire Hospice and the NHS including Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust for trying to save my life and their tireless work to try and eliminate cancer.

“But more importantly a massive thank you to all the amazing professionals who really did try their absolute best for me, showed me absolute compassion and gave me more time than what was seemingly possible. I thank you sincerely.”

The JustGiving page has raised over £1400 already.
