A Salford supermarket is funding free items for customers to donate to Salford Foodbank at no personal cost.
The Buy One Give One Free scheme at Booths, MediaCityUK, means that for every qualifying item that customers buy in store, they can pick another one up completely free of charge to donate to the store’s food bank collection point.
Team leader Connor Goulding said: “Whenever you are buying a qualifying item, take two with you to the checkout.
“One of the items will go through as free, and then you can place the item in the foodbank as you leave the store.”
The list of qualifying items include: coffee, soft drinks, pasta, tins and cans, fruit, veg and toiletries.
Booths decided to start the scheme early rather than waiting until January 2021 as planned.
John Gill, head of marketing and trading, said: “As a family-owned and operated retailer, we have a responsibility to support our local communities, particularly in these unprecedented times.
“We hope that our scheme will increase the volumes of products that we can donate to our local foodbanks. Therefore people in need can have access to food and hygiene essentials.”

Salford Foodbank gave 5,661 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis in 2019.
The new Booths scheme aims to top this for 2020 during the global pandemic.
Customer experience manager Colin Porter said: “The introduction of the scheme will allow us to get more food to those in need in our communities, helping to essentially minimise food poverty and allowing our customers to make a real, positive difference.”
