Salford City’s interim manager and co-owner Paul Scholes was unable to lead his side to a win that would have kept them in the play-off positions, despite taking the lead through in-form striker James Wilson.
TheSkyBet League Two encounter with Crawley Town finished 1-1 after Crawley’s captain George Francomb’s late equaliser and it wasn’t the result interim manager Paul Scholes had wanted.
Although, Scholes admitted it was the fair result on the balance of play: “Just about yeah, I think we tired badly in the last 20 minutes and Crawley came into it.
“They’re a fit team that have been working hard all season, teams like that just don’t go away, if you’ve only got a one-goal lead- it’s just not enough.”
However, there were positives to take from the game and no more so than ex-Manchester United striker James Wilson who scored for the 4th game in a row at the Peninsula Stadium, a place that is becoming very much like home for him.
On the form of Wilson, Scholes said: “It’s a great goal again, that’s what he is – James Wilson is a match-winner for us – he’s not had loads of football but now in the last three to four weeks he has played a lot and hopefully if he can keep on playing, we will get the reward from it.”

It was also a big day for current Manchester United academy player Di’Shon Bernard who came off the bench to make his debut, following his recent loan move.
Scholes was impressed with the 20-year-old’s debut, saying: “He did well, it’s a new experience for him, he can play centre-half, he can play in midfield, possibly a right-back at a push too.
“It was a good experience for him, I thought he did everything he needed to do and hopefully, he pushes on now.”

Looking ahead to Salford’s next game on the road to Scunthorpe on Tuesday evening, Scholes said: “It will be a tough game, we’ve got some good players, we know that but no team in this league are going to lie back and let you play.
“We need to be ready, we need to get freshened up after today, it’s been a tough afternoon but we’ll get back in tomorrow and get working towards Tuesday.”

As for the Crawley manager John Yems, he was positive about his sides performance and togetherness: “The lads are enjoying it, when you come out of there 1-1 after what’s gone on with the Exeter result, I think we showed great character to come back.
“Without the spirit and the endeavor the football won’t be there, that’s what we’re based on.”
