Salford City welcome Southend United to the Peninsula Stadium on Tuesday night with the Ammies looking to return to winning ways under Paul Scholes.
A late winner for Port Vale meant that City tasted defeat for the first time this season in the interim managers opening game on Saturday, but with Southend bottom of the league, the fixture provides a great opportunity to bounce back with a first league home win.
Scholes found last week’s result “difficult to take” but after training Sunday morning and a “little bit” on Monday, he seems hopeful that Salford can get their first win with the former Manchester United man at the helm.
“If we play the similar type of way to how we played tonight I think we’ll be okay”, he said.

Following relegation from League One last season, the Shrimpers are winless in the division having drawn twice, but most recently suffering a fourth loss at the hands of Cheltenham at the weekend.
Despite Southend’s poor start to the season, they stand only a win away from potentially lifting themselves out of the relegation zone.

Ahead of a first-ever meeting between the two sides, it’s clear they are enjoying different fortunes.
Last week’s defeat knocks Salford down to 11th in the table having been fifth the week before, however, a win could return them to the play-off spots they will be vying for come the end of the season.
Salford City v Southend United kicks off at 7.45pm Tuesday 20th October.
