The centuries-old tradition of trick or treating has been banned in Salford this year because going door-to-door counts as mixing households.

Due to Greater Manchester’s local restrictions, the government has confirmed that the children of Salford will not be able to trick or treat for Halloween this year.

For people where there are no local restrictions, trick or treating will be allowed, but only in groups of five as the person answering the door counts as the sixth person.

Anyone found to break the rules could be fined £200.

A No.10 spokesperson said: “The rules are clear on household mixing, dependent on whether you are in a local lock down area or not.

“We are clear that everybody needs to follow the rule of six to ensure we can control and try and reduce the spread of the virus. We are asking everybody to abide by that rule.”
