With the new SkyBet League Two season now just over 24 hours away, Salford City boss Graham Alexander believes his side are well prepared going into the game at home against Exeter City tomorrow.
The Ammies have had a busy transfer window so far with seven new faces in the club, including the likes of striker Ian Henderson and central defender Tom Clarke.
When asked about the value of now having experienced heads in the dressing room and on the pitch, Alexander said: “We believe that constantly successful teams have a core of experienced players, who can manage and lead on the pitch. I believe the players we have bought have brought that to the table.”
The coming season will be like no other, with no crowds at games and a big pile up of fixtures from the off. Speaking on whether his side will be both physically and mentally prepared for games coming thick and fast, Alexander responded: “The mentality side we won’t have a problem with, we know what makes the players tick.
“The physicality side can be difficult but we believe the players look after themselves well and are doing what is required to keep themselves fit.”
Many people believe Salford are going to be one of the favourites for the league title this year, but Alexander was quick not to get carried away.
“The bookies will always have their opinions its part of the game, but it doesn’t have any bearing on my thoughts or perceptions,” Alexander added.
Salford will be looking for a quick response to their heavy defeat in the EFL Trophy on Wednesday night, when Manchester United Under-21s put six past them at home.
But last year’s League Two play-off finalists, Exeter City, stand in their way, and will be just as eager to hit the ground running tomorrow afternoon in the hope they can go one step further this season.
Salford’s League Two opener against Exeter City kicks off at 3.00pm at the Peninsula Stadium tomorrow afternoon.
