Salford City have announced the departure of experienced centre-back Carl Piergianni to fellow SkyBet League Two side Oldham Athletic, on a two-year deal.
The 28-year-old has been regarded as a fans favourite by Ammies supporters since signing for the club when they turned professional back in 2017.
The Englishman arrived at the Peninsula Stadium from South Melbourne, racking up 111 appearances for Salford and scoring 15 goals in the process.
Perhaps his most memorable goal for the club came in the 2019 National league play-off final win against AFC Flyde.
And Piergianni’s time at Salford did not come without individual accolades too, as he won both Supporters’ and Players’ Player of the Year awards in 2018-19, as well as the supporters’ award he won in the 2017-18 title-winning season.
The central defender moves to Oldham after a successful loan spell with the club last season, becoming one of the first signings for newly-appointed Latics manager Harry Kewell.
Speaking in his first interview with Oldham since rejoining, Piergianni said: “I always had the ambition of coming back here, I really enjoyed my time here.
“I had no doubts about where I wanted to play after the spell I had here.
“There’s no denying how big of a club this is. I want to be part of the squad that turns the fortunes around and gets this club going in the right direction.”
The 28-year-old put in some solid performances for the Latics last season, and spoke on the defensive partnership he established with club skipper David Wheater.
“Me and Wheats (Wheater) did form a good partnership, we got to know each other quite quickly.
“The whole back four, even with different players coming in there, we formed good partnerships.
The 28-year-old will be joined at Boundary Park by former Manchester United left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, and Portuguese full-back Sido Jombati, who was released by Wycombe Wanderers recently after six years with the Chairboys.
