A jet ski has reportedly been racing down Salford’s Bridgewater Canal in a move which has caused outrage among local wildlife lovers.
Reports and footage of the alleged incident emerged on social media over the weekend, prompting Greater Manchester Police to urge anybody with information to come forward.
In a Facebook post via GMP Swinton and Little Hulton’s official page, Sgt Mark Livesey said: “I have also had a couple of reports of a Jet Ski on the canal at speed causing a disturbance to walkers and distress to wildlife.
“Unlike cars we can’t trace the jet ski through a reg number so if anyone has any idea who they may be please let me know via a DM (marked FAO Sgt Livesey) or if you have any images of them.”
Below the post, some members of the public voiced their concern for the local wildlife, with one saying: “Hope u find out the idiots on the jet ski, might sound like they are not doing any harm but all the ducks and swans have babies with them at the moment and I doubt the idiots would care about that.”
On Twitter, a Worsley-based information page posted a video of the incident, commenting: “Costa Del Salford this afternoon. Not something we encourage but it’s the closest most people in Worsley are going to get to a jet ski this summer.”
