Sale Sharks star, Rohan Janse van Rensburg, has been handed a two-week suspension and a £32,500 fine after breaching Rugby Football Union regulations.
The club have also been handed a £20,000 fine as well as a five point deduction for their involvement, but that has been suspended for two years.
The centre, who has been capped one by South Africa, was sanctioned after he was found guilty of being under contract at two clubs at the same time – Gloucester and Sale.
Van Rensburg had initially been on loan at Sale during 2017-18 and made his move permanent, signing a three-year contract – effective from 1 July 2018. However, the RFU had ruled that he was already under contract at Gloucester.
£25,000 of van Rensburg’s fine will be given by the RFU to the Kingsholm outfit to cover monies that were payed to him and not repaid to the club.
