Salford Royal Hospital have today confirmed the deaths of two patients from Coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 8 in Greater Manchester.
The patients were said to have underlying health issues.
A Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust spokesman said: “We can confirm that sadly two patients have passed away at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust.
“Both patients had tested positive for COVID-19.
“Both patients were female, in their 80s and had underlying health conditions.
“Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patients’ families and loved ones at this difficult time.”

The news comes as giant banners appear outside the hospital in Salford supporting NHS workers reading “You are not alone. Manchester is with you” and “Frontline staff, the people thank you”

In a statement, NHS England said: “A further 39 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in England to 167.
“Patients were aged between 50 and 99 years old and had underlying health conditions.
“Their families have been informed.”
