A memorial was held to commemorate the Salford-born servicemen that have died on active duty since World War II.
The memorial, that took place at The Magdalene Centre in Eccles, was filled with onlookers as they unveiled a new plaque to pay tribute to their fellow soldiers.
Every Saturday the representatives from the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, and Royal Marine as well as family and friends of the soldiers come together as a community to share breakfast and socialise with one another.
In December 2014 Salford Veterans Club Associate Glenn Croston began research to make sure there was a place in Salford where the servicemen could be remembered
Gleen Croston: “Nobody has taken it upon themselves to update any memorials, there isn’t one central memorial in Salford each town seems to have one, but apart from one name you won’t find any of the others on a Town memorial”.
To qualify to get on the plaque, all soldiers were either born in the City of Salford, enlisted as living in Salford when they signed up, or have been buried or cremated in Salford.
The Armed forces and veterans breakfast club thought it was important for the community that all 26 names were honoured in a local area for their services.
Anne Croft, the mother of an active serviceman: “they’re not here to celebrate a New Year, a Birthday or a Christmas or anything that we can celebrate…they gave their lives up for that and that’s why we should remember them, always remember them”.

Their names might have been forgotten for decades but now they will be remembered forever by their brother in arms.
