The Landscape History & Wildlife Walk in Worsley helps people to become more active by encouraging them to participate in walks about history and wildlife.
The free walks happen weekly and is a chance to walk and talk about the history and nature of the area, whilst exercising and meeting new people.
The next walk is happening on February 28, where you can reminisce about its heritage and, of course, spot some of the special wildlife that lives here.
Jo Bennett, Active Lifestyles Development Officer for Salford Community Leisure, said: “I co-ordinate the Health Walks in Salford and train and support the volunteers to lead them. I enjoy the social element and really enjoy helping people to make a difference by becoming more active and motivating people.”
The walks are designed for local people to make friends whilst learning new information on their doorstep.
The Active Lifestyles team at Salford Community Leisure help support people who have health conditions to get physically active. Jo has worked for the organisation for 17 years, so has great knowledge of Salford, and areas to walk.
Jo said: “A lot of participants have a lot of local knowledge. Depending who turns up for the walk will depend on the chit chat and topics.”
The 9 Health Walks and 2 Carbon Landscape Walks have between around 15 and 50 people on each walk weekly.
There is no need to book, but it is advised to wear suitable clothing and footwear, as the walks will mostly be off-road on tracks and bridle paths.
The walk starts at 10am at Blackleach Country Park, John Street, Worsley, Walkden, M28 3TD.
