This Friday sees Salford Red Devils host Huddersfield Giants in round three of the 2020 Super League.
After last weekend’s 24-16 win over Toronto Wolfpack, the Reds will be looking to break Huddersfield heart’s on Valentine’s Day and continue their unbeaten home run.
Opening the season with a harsh defeat away to St Helens, Salford, who sit at eighth in the Super League table, got back to winning ways last Saturday when they welcomed Toronto to the AJ Bell.
New signings Kevin Brown, Dan Sarginson and Rhys Williams all impressed with tries, Williams especially who displayed some blistering pace sprinting 70 metres with the ball before getting himself on the scoresheet.
The game was closer than expected however, with the Canadians exposing some weak spots in Salford’s defensive line.
If Salford want to make it three wins out of four against the Giants in just over 12 months, the Devils will need to address these defensive errors as Huddersfield pose more of a threat as a well-established Super League squad.
Over in West Yorkshire, Huddersfield Giants opened their 2020 campaign with a comfortable 12-32 victory away to Catalans Dragons.
The Claret and Golds are currently fourth in the table, level on points with Salford, and will be hoping to make it two away wins in a row.
Friday’s game will arguably be Huddersfield’s first test of the year after their scheduled clash with Leeds Rhinos last Sunday was postponed due to the poor weather.
Last season the two teams met three times, with Huddersfield coming out victors once, an 18-36 away win in July.
If other results go their way, a win for either team would put them top of the Super League and bragging rights as Valentine’s heartbreakers.
Salford Red Devils v Huddersfield Giants Super League kicks off at 7.45pm on Friday 14th February, with more details here.
