On 29th January, Salford City Council will hold a Civic event to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
For the first time, the event will be held at the University of Salford and in partnership with the University.
The event in 2020 has a special resonance as it marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp.
Mr Robbie Gontarz, son of Holocaust survivor, Mr Sam Gontarz, will speak about his father’s experience.
There are over four hundred #HMD2020 activities on our online map, including workshops, ceremonies, exhibitions, survivor speakers and film screenings.

The 2020 theme is Stand Together, which will be reflected as Salford brings together its communities in reflection.
The event will include an introduction from the University and from Salford’s City Mayor, Paul Dennett.
There will be contributions from Walkden High’s Anne Frank Ambassadors and music from a BBC Philharmonic String Quartet and the Whitefield Synagogue Community Choir.
The event will conclude with a candle-lighting ceremony to commemorate those who perished during the Nazi Holocaust and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
The event is preceded by networking at 6.30 pm and will begin at 7pm.
