An Eccles Christian choir are looking to spread Christmas cheer around care homes in Salford.

Elmwood Church have set aside a few hours every Monday and Friday to go sing carols to the elderly people.

Jenny Lemon, Eccles choir singer, said: “The reality is the people in care homes usually are there because it’s the last port of call

“I go in there to tell them that there is more to it than that. There is a home beyond the home”

Residents of Beechfield Care Home (Photo credit: Nadine Rose)Beechfield Lodge, a care home that they attend once a month, believe that their visits help to improve the resdients’ well-being.

Shelia Thornton, 60, District Wellness Coordinator, said: “I do think it does help people. I’m an advocate of bringing health and wellness, rather than just activites.”

One resident who is living proof of this is Mabel Lyon, the oldest resident in her carehome at the age of 104 years old.

She said: “These carols that they’ve sung, they aren’t new, those have been going since I was a baby.”

She remembers all her choir songs being about the navy, with her favourite being ‘Out with the Tide.’

The choir will be making their next visit to Aspire Care home.
