On Saturday 7th December, Salford City face Colchester on away ground in the league. Currently Salford sit two places behind Colchester in League Two with two points between them.

Down at Partington Sports Village, whilst speaking to SalfordNow, manager Graham Alexander acknowledged: “It will be a tougher opponent in the league, Colchester are a good team, especially at home so we’ll probably have to improve a little bit from what we did.”

When referring to the game on Tuesday where the team celebrated a 3-0 win on home turf against Wolves under 21s. Alexander said, “I was really pleased with the performance, some players that played on Tuesday have given us something to think about going into the game on Saturday.”

With numerous players having never played in the football league before Alexander said he is “seeing improvement week in week out” and after a “very good performance on Tuesday” they are looking to replicate it against Colchester United at the weekend.

On Thursday evening, Salford City learnt their fate in the Leasing.com Trophy as they drew Port Vale in the third round. The tie is scheduled to play week commencing January 6th.

The former Scottish international said: “We don’t mind who we play, home or away, I think it’s a competition we’ve done really well in so far this season and we’d love to continue that run, so as a preference for an opponent we’re not really fussed.”

When asked about the fan’s reactions Alexander said “I think they’re ecstatic, I think they’re realistic as they know we’re in our first ever season in the Football League and there is going to be challenges along the way.

“On some occasions we haven’t done ourselves justice but on other games we’ve played really well, so it’s just about finding that consistency.

“To be fair to the supporters they’ve been fantastic with us, we travel a lot of miles and there is always a hardy group of supporters that follow us everywhere.”

A win against Colchester on Saturday would fire Salford into the top ten.
