Salford University men’s football team extended their lead at the top of the table to six points, as they won 3-2 away to Manchester Metropolitan University.
Despite going 1-0 down in the first half after Dan Woodward gave away a penalty which was converted by the opposition.
An own goal brought Salford back into the game before goals by Jamie Davidson and Will Parry put the team 3-1 up.
Despite a late goal by the hosts, Salford held on for their fifth win of the season.
We spoke to yesterday’s man of the match Dan Cox.
Reflecting on their last match Cox commented, “We’ve done well, bit of a slow start, we lost our second game but since then we’ve won every game, five on the bounce.
“We’re kicking on now which you can see as we’re top of the league”.
He then went on to say: “When I started we didn’t actually have a coach or proper playing pitches”.
Manager Lewis Henderson said the team were a real success: “It was a great performance from the boys.
“To come from a goal down against our rivals on their own turf and win quite comfortably in the end is great.
“Now we can kick on and get back to back promotions and with how we’ve played so far this season, the lads deserve it.”
