Megabus is offering free travel to University students studying in different cities.
Dubbed the ‘Sweetheart Saver,’ the trial will see 10 lucky couples who are struggling to maintain their Uni relationships win a Sweetheart Saver ticket for free, by signing up on the Megabus website by Thursday 12th December.
According to one study, up to 75% of college students report having been in a long-distance relationship at some point in their lives, and 35% of college students are in long-distance relationships at any one time.
And research from Megabus has revealed that on average, student couples are living 231 miles apart, and spending approximately £4,800 a year to keep their relationships alive.
Even then, many couples only get to see each other three times a month.
Kate Harrington – Lambert is a 3rd year student at the University of Salford. Her boyfriend Brendan studies in Derby. She said:
‘My boyfriend and I were in a long distance relationship in our first and second years of university.
‘We had to catch 3 trains to make the journey, as there was never a direct route.
‘Obviously a journey with this many connections never comes cheap so we had to restrict how often we would see each other.
‘We had to work part time to make sure we could afford our tickets but then because of this we didn’t have many chances to see each other.
‘If we’d had the option of the Megabus deal I think it would have made things a lot easier for us, and it is one less thing to worry about on top of studying for a degree, work placements and part time jobs”
So if your boyfriend is at home in Bournemouth, your girlfriend moved all the way up to Glasgow, or is your fiancé is studying in Falmouth, it’s good to know that Megabus has your back.
