Salford Lads’ Club hosted a Q&A evening with Noel Gallagher, welcoming members of the public to ask questions to the Oasis singer-songwriter.

Dr Kirsty Fairclough, associate dean of research and innovation at Salford University, asked Noel some gruelling questions about his music career and personal life.

Dr Fairclough read out selected questions from members of the audience including ‘What’s the greatest party you’ve ever been to?’

He replied: ”My 50th was f*cking amazing. Madonna turned up and she wasn’t even invited. Like a true Mancunian, I said “who the f*ck invited you?”

Q: “What’s your favourite thing about Manchester?”

A: “Manchester City.”

Q: “What’s your favourite B-side?”

A: “Half the world away. John Lewis made me a fortune for it. Ironically I’ve spent a fortune in John Lewis.”

Q: “Which three songs would you want played at your funeral?”

A: “The End. Going Underground and Stairway to Heaven.”

Dr Fairclough also questioned Noel on his relationship with David Bowie.

He said: “He’s one of the all-time greatest.

“I remember when I first met him I was at this party and someone turned to me and said ‘David would like to see you.’ I was like… ‘Of course he f*cking would!’

“David would like to see you” I was like… Of course he f*cking would!”

“He emailed me once, just saying ‘Thanks for the shout out. Keep writing – DB’. My wife said to me ‘Are you sure? Are you sure it was David?’

The session with Noel was hosted at the iconic Salford Lads’ Club; important to bands like The Smiths and Joy Division.

Tickets for the Q&A session sold out in under a minute.

Fan James Bridgeman from Stockport said:

“I normally don’t get lucky. They’re normally sold out by the time that you click on buy, and then you queue and then they’re out of stock.

“I’ve seen Noel and Oasis probably about 15-20 times, easy.”

Tom Cross from Rossendale also got hold of tickets for the event.

He said: “I just whipped out my computer at the right time. I had a mate count me down.”

Chris Bridgett, singer-songwriter for Manchester band Cold Water Swimmers, discussed what sort of questions he wanted to hear from the Q&A.

“It’s great to hear about his song writing. Where his inspiration comes from… I’m a songwriter myself so I always find it quite interesting when I hear that.

“I knew Noel before he was in Oasis, I knew him fairly well. Oasis were kind of almost a group of friends really.

“You can’t deny the contributions he’s had to modern music. You’d be a fool to I think.”

Linda Mayes-Walker and Andrea Crump from Wythenshawe discussed what questions they want to ask Noel.

“I do want to find out really what happened between him and his brother. I’m sure most people are asking that.”

Linda added: “I probably would like to ask him how he came up with Little by little, because that’s my favourite.”

Matt Forest from Warrington discussed the choice of location for the event, at the iconic Salford Lads’ Club.

“I’ve never been here before but you can clearly see it’s still part of the community, and an important part of the community which is a good thing.”

David Gerard, who has worked at the club for 10 years, talked about meeting Liam, and other Manchester bands who have visited the club.

The event brought together a mix of people of all ages. Finn, Jack, Josh and James from Bolton commented on what they expected from the night:

“I’m going to ask him what his future is. You know because he’s doing all this space music now.”
