A shop worker in Salford was threatened at knife point on Saturday after the attempted burglary of alcohol from the store.
Police were called to Irlam News and Wine shop on Liverpool Road, Irlam on Saturday morning, shortly after 8am.
According to Greater Manchester Police, the two men involved were attempting to steal four large bottles of beer from the store. When confronted, the men threatened the store owner with a knife before fleeing the scene.
The two men, aged 18 and 24, were detained by officers less than half an hour later and arrested on suspicion of burglary. They remain in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Packer of GMP’s Salford District, said: “Weapons have never and will never be welcome on our streets and neither will those who think it is acceptable to carry them.
“By carrying a knife, they are not only putting themselves at risk but innocent members of the public who have families to go home to.
“We have two people in custody but our investigation is very much continuing so you may see local officers in the area, carrying out their enquiries and gathering witness accounts.
“If you know someone who carries a knife, please tell us. Preventing violent crime is so important but we can only do so with your help.”
