Colour. Passion. Noise. A few of the things that fans can expect at Old Trafford this weekend as the ICC Cricket World Cup ventures north for the first time in 2019.
Sunday will see two heavyweights in world cricket, India and Pakistan, battle it out for the first time since the Asia Cup last year. It is thought that over 500,000 people applied for tickets – enough to sell-out the world-famous ground 20 times over.
Millions of eyes from around the world will turn their attentions to the home of Lancashire Cricket as it hosts international cricket for the first time this summer.
This huge clash will be the first of six Cricket World Cup matches to be held at the venue – a list which also includes the hosts England, Afghanistan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the West Indies. Old Trafford will also host the first semi-final on July 9, three days after its final group match.

Lancashire Cricket CEO, Daniel Gidney spoke to Salford Now in March about the impact that the tournament will have on Manchester and the surrounding areas which includes Salford.
“The tournament is worth in excess of £30million to the region and that is in addition to our international matches over the next six years which will bring in over £100million.
“The scale of this tournament cannot be underestimated – the economic spend on hotels, restaurants, flights etc. is great for the country and more specifically Manchester.” he added.

Old Trafford last hosted World Cup cricket back in 1999 and hosted matches in editions prior to that tournament.
A memorable moment from the 1999 tournament was Glenn McGrath’s five for 14 as Australia skittled out the West Indies for 110 to book their spot in the super six stage of the competition.
Salford Now will be providing coverage of three World Cup matches starting with England v Afghanistan on Tuesday 18th June.
