A Salford man has been sentenced to 12 Months in prison for racially aggravated criminal damage following a racist graffiti attack in Irlam.
Vaughan Dowd, of Irlam Square, Salford, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court earlier today after pleading guilty to charges of criminal damage and racially aggravated criminal damage.
Dowd spray painted the phrase “No Blacks” on the door of Salford resident Jackson Yamba in March this year.
The incident was originally highlighted by Mr Yamba on social media, and was met with a huge response from the community in Salford.
My front door in Salford was painted over a week ago with this abhorrent racist graffiti – after reporting it to @gmpolice they still haven’t been here to investigate. How do I assure my traumatised 10 year old that he is safe in his home? @BBCBreaking @RLong_Bailey @guardian pic.twitter.com/WjGEz9rT7e

Superintendent Marcus Noden, of GMP’s Salford District, said: “This was a cowardly and spiteful act, and there is no place for this kind of hatred in Manchester or anywhere else.
“No one should be subjected to this kind of abuse, especially in their own home, and I hope the fact that Dowd must now face the consequences of his actions brings the victim some comfort.
“I also hope this acts as a reminder that Greater Manchester Police do not tolerate any form of hate crime, and we will actively pursue those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.”
Anyone who believes they have been the victim of a hate crime should call police on 101.
