A play documenting the hidden lives of young carers from Salford is going on a UK tour this June.
‘Who Cares’ which was written by Matt Woodhead, aims to shed light on the secret lives of young people who discreetly look after those around them.
The play contains interviews from four young Salford based carers who discuss their lives, and includes input from their families and teachers alongside the play’s ongoing narrative.

Venues for the production have strictly been chosen based on locations where deprivation levels and the need for support services are at their highest.
Co-produced by The Lowry and Lung theatre, the drama was created alongside Greater Manchester charity Gaddum and its Salford Carers Service and hopes to been seen by more than 4,000 people this June, according to a press release issued by the Lowry Theatre.
It is not the first outing for Woodhead’s creation, which premiered at The Lowry back in November 2016 and saw positive reviews. It then showed at the House of Lords the following year where it was attended by MPs, who were believed to have been ‘knocked sideways’ by the story.
This is not the first play on the subject to be connected with The Lowry this year. ‘Time to Bloom,’ a celebration of young carers put on by theater group ‘The Knotted Project‘ and a group of Salford carers spent two nights at The Lowry at the end of March as part of the ‘Big Celebration’, an evening dedicated to championing young carers and their journeys.
The tour begins at Kent’s Folkestone Quarterhouse on June 4 before finishing on July 5 at London’s Art Depot.
