Salford’s Graystone Action Sports Academy is set to host the upcoming national Skateboarding championships, ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The event which is due to take place between April 12 and 14, is to be the first ever official national skateboarding competition to be held in England ahead of the sport’s Olympic debut next year.
Unfolding over three days, Graystone is set to welcome more than 140 of the nation’s most talented skaters, concluding on the Sunday with the competition’s grand final.
A Graystone spokesman said: “It’s a real honour to be selected to host the inaugural National Skateboard Championships. We’ve only been open since December 2018, so it’s amazing to see us recognized already as the UK’s premier skateboard facility. There’s been a lot of planning involved that goes back way before we even opened. Our skatepark builders, 414, are the finest in the land and it’s their wizardry combined with the fantastic vision of our founders that’s put Graystone on the map as the UK’s first action sports academy.”

They added :”All eyes are going to be on Graystone and the Greater Manchester area with the event being broadcast live on the BBC Red Button, not just in the UK, but internationally. You can expect to see 140 of Britain’s finest skateboarders battle it out in the first Olympic qualifier before skateboarding makes its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020.”
Skaters Sky Brown, Alex Decunha, Jordan Thackeray and Alex Hallford are all set to take part in the event, having recently been selected for the Skateboard GB Aspiration Squad which was also announced from the facility back in March.
