St Helens maintained their unbeaten start to the Betfred Super League season as they defeated Salford Red Devils 26-4 at the AJ Bell Stadium.
St Helens took the lead on 19 minutes, Theo Fages kicking for the left corner where Mark Percival caught and scored the try, and Lachlan Coote scored the conversion.
On 32 minutes, St Helens got their second try of the game through Jonny Lomax who forced his way over the line after a quick break on the left hand side. Coote was unable to convert the kick so the score remained 0-10.
Just before the hooter sounded, St Helens added a third try through James Roby after a quick dummy before he powered over the line, before Coote added the conversion to give the Saints a 16-0 lead at half time.
Salford started brightly and after 54 minutes Robert Lui’s kick to the right hand corner was caught and scored by Darrell Olpherts. Ken Sio was unable to add the conversion from a tight angle meaning the score stood at 16-4.
Four minutes later St Helen’s made it 20-4 when Regan Grace scored a try by the left touchline, however Coote missed the conversion.
St Helens’ Roby picked up his second try of the game in the 76th minute as he forced his way over on the right hand side, and Coote added the conversion. The match ended 26-4 to the Saints giving the hosts their second loss of the season so far.
