Stars of Coronation Street and Emmerdale are among the cast for the revival of Andrea Dunbar’s Rita, Sue and Bob Too which comes to the Lowry this spring.
The play, directed by the National Theatre Playwriting prize winner Kate Wasserberg, is at the Salford venue from April 9-13.
Out of Joint, who are touring the play, produce and tour politically and socially driven shows with the aim to spark conversations on these issues. Rita, Sue and Bob Too is no exception.
The show follows Rita and Sue, two teenage best friends, after they are offered a taste of adulthood they cannot refuse. The pioneering play explores the female perspective on unpromising futures, battered childhoods and working class life in 1980s northern England.
Sue will be played by Gemma Dobson, who returns after winning several awards for the role in previous productions. Joining her as Rita will be Alyce Liburd (Aladdin,Aladdin) and Bob will be played by John Askew (Gypsy Queen, Wuthering Heights).
Coronation Street and Emmerdale stars Susan Mitchell (mum) and David Walker (dad) will also be joining the cast alongside Samantha Robinson (Cilla, Educating Rita) as Michelle.
The show was first staged in 2017 and was seen by more than 30,000 people across the country.
