Work has began on the multi-million pound redevelopment of Salford’s Canon Green Campus, which aims to introduce over 100 affordable new homes to the Salford community and give a face-lift to the current buildings.
The residential scheme deal has been landed by Wilmott Dixon Partnership Homes Ltd, who will be working closely with housing association Salix Homes to revitalise the 1960’s block tower and the surrounding area.

This comes after the award-winning development for Trafford Housing Trust, that was lead by Wilmott Dixon. Their Limelight residential scheme was awarded Inside Housing’s Best Older People’s housing development and Best Affordable housing development.
The redevelopment of Salford’s Canon Green Campus will transform the block with “modern new kitchens, bathrooms, heating systems, sprinkler systems and exterior re-facing and insulation.” They will also give Westminster House apartment block an external makeover.
Canon Green Campus has previously been the backdrop to many crime shows, including ITV’s 2014 crime-drama “Prey”.
Lee Sugden, Chief executive at Salix Homes said: “They’re relatively poor quality at the moment and our ambition is to improve them to a modern standard.”
After this, the redevelopment continues when they begin the construction of the new 11 story apartment block. This building will hold 108 one/two bedroom apartments, which will be available on the rent-to-buy schemes.
Sugden said: “This project will transform the lives of the people who live there currently and the new people.”
The redevelopment of Salford’s Canon Green Campus will run over two years, and provide high-quality housing for hundreds of people.
Sugden described this as “the single biggest new affordable development in this part of Salford.”
The redevelopment of Salford’s Canon Street Campus is partially being funded by a £3.8 million grant from Home England- a public body that funds new affordable housing in England.
Sugden added: “I hope they look back in another 30-40 years and it’s the backdrop of really modern, forward thinking TV programmes and it reflects a modern Salford. A place which is booming, where people want to live and where they can live in an affordable way, in really high quality living conditions.”
