Royal Mail staff at Manchester’s Mail Centre are working hard to guarantee millions of Christmas post arrives on time.
Last year the sorting office in Manchester sent out 140 million letters with Christmas planning starting in January.
23,000 extra Christmas staff have been brought in across Royal Mail for during the festive period.
Martin Dodson, who has worked for Royal Mail for three years said:
“It’s busy especially around this time of year but it’s a fun place to work so the day goes quicker,
“You get all the excited kids looking forward to their parcels from Santa, but Santa brings them not me! We help him though, it’s a nice thing to make people happy.”
James Jack, who is Plant Manager of the Manchester branch has worked with Royal Mail for 39 years said:
“We delivered 140 million letters last Christmas and we’re expecting similar volumes this year,
“We have 850 members of staff and I recruit an extra 500 at Christmas for extra support,
“It’s a key time of year for both the business and the customer.”
When should you send your post?
- 18th December for second class
- 20th December for first class
- 21st December for special deliveries
