Speaking on Envision Virgin Racing’s social media, Bird said: “Final preparations are underway for the first round of the FIA Formula E with the Gen2 car, season five, it’s really exciting.
“I can’t wait to get started in under ten days!”
The Gen2 car, which all drivers will use this season, has been created with major advancements on the previous model.
Drivers will no longer have to swap cars mid-race as Gen2 has the double the energy storage capacity and double the range of the previous model, meaning teams can complete the full race at higher speeds.
At the launch of Gen2 in May 2018, Formula E Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag said: “This car represents the future of racing.
“When we started Formula E, our goal was to break the mould and challenge the status quo – bringing a revolution to motorsport. This next generation car represents that revolution.”
The seven-month Championship season will see the Gen2 raced around the streets of cities across the world, including New York, Hong Kong and Paris.
Formula E fans are in for a treat this weekend as the Championship heads to Saudi Arabia for the first time.
A three day event will be concluded with the first race of the season, as guests such as DJ David Guetta, OneRepublic and The Black Eyed Peas entertain the thrill-seeking crowds.
