Drummercise classes have opened in Salford in a bid to bring fun to physical activity.
The half hour alternative exercise sessions will see participants drumming on exercise balls in time to music to get help Salford moving.
The classes are being held at The Angel Centre, just off Chapel Street.
Chantelle Archer, the personal trainer who holds the exercise sessions, believes Drummercise is exactly what Salford needs.
Ms Archer explained: “It’s something fun, it’s different and is only 30 minutes so it’s not like it takes a lot of time out of your day.”
The classes are designed to be fun and helpful in bringing the community together. They may also help tackle physical inactivity within Salford.
Recent statistics showed that just under a third of the adult population in Salford is inactive. Studies have suggested that physical inactivity is directly responsible for 1 in 6 premature deaths.
The classes are only 30 minutes long but are high intensity.
Ms Archer explained: “It’s a high energy class so within the 30 minutes we want you to get your heart rate going.
“You can just pop into the class, work up a sweat, burn some calories then you can get off and do what you need to do with your day.”
Recent reports from Salford Now highlighted that physical inactivity costs the city of Salford £5.4 million in health care costs.
The free Drummercise classes may be helpful in tackling this problem and encouraging people to exercise.
The Angel Centre also hosts a number of other exercise classes for the Salford community. New classes are being added, with Boxfit, Legs Bums and Tums, and Pilates currently among the sessions offered.
Drummercise runs on Friday mornings from 11am at the Angel Centre. To register your interest, find The Angel Centre on Facebook or ring them on 0161 212 4980.
