Salford Quays’ Great Run Local group is at a standstill tonight as Media City’s first Christmas light switch-on will block their regular route.
The group run regular weekly routes through the Quays, with 2k and 5k options available depending on your level.
They were scheduled to run tonight, but it has been disrupted by the crowds that The Snowman and Pudsey Bear are expected to draw when they turn on Media City’s Christmas lights for the first time.
The running group consistently draws around 70 runners, so large crowds would be an issue for the club to navigate.
Great Run Local hosts similar clubs across the country, which are open to all.
Each run is treated as a placed event, with each runner’s time recorded on the Great Run Local website.
Despite traffic chaos causing issues, and a rejigging of marshals,it was quite a success tonight. Even had some French visitors 🙂 pic.twitter.com/LoRElmAjKj

The club – which describes itself as a community – are expecting to meet as usual for next Thursday’s run at 6.45pm outside the Helly Hanson Watersports Centre.
Next week’s run will take place alongside the currently disruptive Snowmen, made by the same arts company as the 22 Bees.
Joining and participating in runs with the volunteer-led group is free, with more information available on their website and Facebook page.
