CRICKET: Lancashire ousted by Worcestershire in Blast semi-final

Pat Brown claimed figures of four for 21 as Worcestershire booked their place in the Vitality Blast final at Edgbaston.

Brown bowled superbly at the death to take the wickets of Jordan Clark (3), James Faulkner (2), Toby Lester and Matt Parkinson (both 0) as the Lancashire middle-order faltered in front of a sell out crowd in Birmingham.

The top-order got the Lightning off to a strong start as they put themselves in the driving seat, sitting pretty at 78 for three at the halfway stage – requiring a further 92 runs off the remaining 60 balls.

England batsman, Keaton Jennings, top-scored with an unbeaten 51 off 40 balls in a knock which included three fours and two sixes.

Lancashire Captain, Liam Livingstone, won the toss and put the Rapids in under the Midlands sunshine. He may have been ruing his decision quickly as the New Road outfit were sitting pretty at 37 for no loss.

Livingstone himself bowled inside the powerplay and went for 23 off his only over.

Ben Cox hit an unbeaten 55 for Worcestershire to propel his side to 179 for six of their 20 overs.

Despite the defeat, Livingstone paid compliment to his side.

“We’ve played some good cricket. We’ve had a few hiccups here and there, but we’ve come back from them strongly.

“I’ve been really pleased and I’m proud of how well the lads have played. It’s a shame to fall at the hurdle we have today.”

The next assignment for Lancashire is a trip to the Ageas Bowl to play their final Specsavers County Championship match against Hampshire.
