Lancashire and England bowler James Anderson has made cricketing history by becoming the highest wicket taker ever for a fast bowler.
Anderson, who is already England’s leading wicket taker, surpassed Australian legend Glenn McGrath’s total of 563. In doing so James (commonly referred to as Jimmy) becomes the fourth highest wicket taker in history, behind spin bowlers Anil Kumble (619), Shane Warne (708) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800).
The record-breaking wicket came on day 5 of England’s 5th and final test of the summer against India. With two wickets already in the innings, Anderson dismissed Mohammed Shami with the final ball of the game, securing the win for England and the record for himself.

Despite the record innings, Anderson remained humble on social media, instead opting to say goodbye to his friend and colleague Alastair Cook, who announced his retirement from International cricket before the final test.

Even if Anderson wouldn’t acknowledge the incredible achievement himself, there was no shortage of praise for the 36-year-old on social media. Even Jimmy’s beloved football team got in on the action, along with his county side and a Champions League finalist.
