AN appeal has been mounted for information or witnesses of a rape in Buile Hill Park.
On Sunday 29th April police were called to the park in response to the rape of a woman in her 20’s, with inquiries ongoing.
Greater Manchester Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, which occurred at 3 the morning, or have any information to step forward.
According to local residents, this is far from the first incident to occur in the area. one man out walking his dog noted that the area was “beginning to get a naughty reputation”.
“Even as a man I wouldn’t feel safe walking through at three o’clock in the morning through the park.” he said, mentioning the rape of a 17-year-old boy in 2014 in the park.
This incident three years ago also occurred in the early morning at one, and lead to extra police patrols being carried out for a period of time.
Even with these incidents, Builes Hill park remains Salford’s biggest and most popular park.
The park is known to have been a regular spot for the artist L.S. Lowry, along with being the location that classic children’s novel “The Secret Garden” was rumoured to have been written Frances Hodgson Burnett.

Buile Hill Park is one of the two parks in the city currently on English Heritage’s Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.
However, local residents are still concerned about safety following this latest incident.
A female dog-walker who uses the park daily added that “even with a dog you’re not always safe.”
Alongside these sexual assaults there have also been reports of vandalism in the past, with police called to Buile Hill park mansion.
