A MANCHESTER-based dance organisation is thriving thanks to grants from Manchester City Council.
Company Chameleon is one of the 15 arts organisations in Manchester to receive a Cultural Partnership Agreement Grant which helps with core running costs to enable them to continue their work in the community over the next four years.
Company Chameleon was set up in 2007 by Anthony Missen and Kevin Edward Turner, of Manchester, who first met at Trafford Youth Dance Theatre.
The dance company leads dance workshops and classes around the world and introduces thousands of young people to dance and movement.
Kevin Edward Turner, Co-Artistic director said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be part of Manchester’s cultural portfolio over the next four years.
“The support from Manchester City Council will enable us to give back to the city where Company Chameleon was born, and for us, this is really exciting.”
Arts organisations had to bid for a share of the money set aside by the council for the grants.
Funding was awarded to organisations that have a track record of delivering cultural opportunities for people of all ages, experiences and backgrounds.
Company Chameleon tour internationally, performing over 50 indoor and outdoor performances a year.
Mr Turner is keen to inspire more people to create their own language through dance.
He said: “Through enhancing the dance offer in Manchester through a new ‘get involved’ programme, we will be offering more workshops and dance development opportunities.
“As a result, we hope to see more people, from all walks of life, enjoying and reaping the benefits of dance.”
