CHICKEN-GATE has entered its fifth day as all but one of the KFC shops in Salford and Manchester are still shut.
This follows a damaging weekend for the fast food chain as ‘teething problems’ with a new delivery company caused 646 out of 900 shops to shut.
Courier service DHL took over deliveries for KFC in November 2017 with aims to “rewrite the rule book and set a new benchmark” for deliveries in the fast food industry.
Employees have been asked to use up their allotted holiday time in the wake of the company’s crisis, as they cannot work. This has angered one employee.
The worker, who did not wish to be named said: “Why should I use up my holiday pay now when I could go on my holidays later. It’s not my fault and I don’t get why I should be dragged in.
“Holidays should have nothing to do with what’s going on at the moment. That’s not the workers fault.”
A spokesperson for KFC said: “Our teams are working flat out all hours to get the rest back up and running as soon as possible, but it’s too early to say how long it will take to clear the backlog.”

A journey to the Arndale Center in Manchester is the likely option for anyone desperate for a KFC today.
Salford Shopping Center KFC and Regent Road KFC in Manchester both failed to answer the phone for a statement on the matter. However, the manager of Denton KFC said: “We had a delivery issue. The restaurants should be back open tomorrow hopefully.”
