THERE is more reason for Mancunians to celebrate the festive period as the Manchester Christmas markets have been officially named as the best in the UK.
Manchester was also named as one of the best Christmas markets in Europe placing a well-deserved 13th on the list. Millions of travellers journey throughout Europe’s Christmas markets during the festive period.
Each year hundreds of thousands vote for their favourite Christmas markets in Europe with European Best Destinations collecting the data and revealing the top 20. The final positions were chosen by a European-wide vote by more than 200,000 people from 131 countries.
The top destinations were selected by travellers for the quality and reputation of their Christmas Markets. Manchester was the only UK city to make the cut and name in the top 15 markets across the continent.
Zagreb in Croatia claimed the number one spot as the 2017 Christmas market winner, with Colmar in France coming second and Vienna in Austria placing third.
The Northern city shrugged off strong competition this year from Cologne in Germany, Bern in Switzerland, and Leipzig in Germany
